For Sale or Trade: Gibson/Triggs Custom Shop A-4 Mandolin 1988 Snakehead - $2,200 USD

$

0
This A-4 Mandolin was made by Jim Triggs in the Gibson Custom Shop in 1988 for Chris Austin, then of the Ricky Skaggs Band. (Chris died in a plane crash in 1991 along with most of Reba McIntire's band) I would call it excellent condition except that there are some tiny air bubbles under the finish in spots and a 3/8 inch bubble on the side. Also, hardly visible, some residual marks from where an accusound pickup (included) was plastered on the top between the bridge and soundhole with masking tape for 20 years. It has small oldstyle frets with very light wear. Woody, dark sound with more bass than treble. Pronounced "V" neck with no adjustable truss rod. Some relief in the neck - plays easily and cleanly. Strings at 12th fret are .080" on the G string and .070" on the e string. Could be lowered a little. The primary picture is the correct color on my monitor. Other pictures went a little yellow. Please ask for special pictures or descriptions.

For Sale: RedLine Acoustics A-5 Mandolin - $2,000 USD

Description: Here we have a nearly new, very gently used RedLine Acoustics A-5 Style Mandolin. It was built in November of 2014, so it is just under a year old, and has very little playing time on it. This mandolin is easy to play, due to the way it is set-up, along with a radiused fretboard and our own Cumberland Acoustic bridge and Pro-Style Set-Up. Made right here in the U.S.A., just outside of Nashville, Tennessee. Since this was originally a custom build, this mandolin has its own unique sunburst scheme, along with a lot more binding than we usually put on our mandolins. This mandolin is bound top and back, fretboard, and on the headstock as well. Another custom feature is the James "Shell" tailpiece, which is a nice upgrade from a standard stamped tailpiece. This mandolin has plenty of volume and very nice tone. It has a nice, throaty bark, chops well, and intonates very well, up and down the neck. Single notes and double-stops ring out loud and clear. Specs: Red Spruce Top, Hard Maple Back/Sides, Radiused Ebony Fretboard, Ebony Headstock Overlay, Cumberland Acoustic Adjustable Ebony Bridge, Adjustable Truss Rod, Bone Nut, Grover #309 Tuners, James "Shell" Tailpiece, Nitro Lacquer over a lovely "Maroon Burst" sunburst. Hard Shell Case Included. Price: $2000. Hard shell case (shown in pictures) included. Thanks for looking. Let me know if you have any questions. Steve

For Sale: Dearstone Mandolin, Model D-5Mc - $4,900 USD

This instrument is also advertised on the Banjo and Fiddle Hangout sites. I am selling my custom made Dearstone D-5Mc. There are still 2 pictures on Ray Dearstone's website here: dearstone.com/id53.htm (the bottom 2). The instrument includes 2 fingerboards. I had Ray cut the shape of the original fingerboard to my specifications, which included the shape, no inlays, and 26 frets on the E string. However, about 2 years later I found that I could not adjust my technique to avoid clicking the fingerboard with my pick, so I had him make one a little shorter, with only 21 frets on the E string. Note that both fingerboards do have dots on the side to mark the 5th, 7th, 10th, 12th, and 15th frets. The next to last picture shows the longer fingerboard installed. I ordered this instrument with the same woods as the Dearstone played by Shawn Lane, of the band Blue Highway, thus the top is made of redwood. The original Travelite case is included. A new instrument from Dearstone will cost $9,000 at the time of this listing, and will also include a long waiting period. Here is a chance to get one immediately, for thousands less. I would prefer to be paid by Cashier's Check or cash. If you would like a 3rd party to verify that this listing is not a scam, you can contact Ray Dearstone directly, as he is aware that I am selling this instrument. His contact info is listed on his website. I will try to answer any questions to the best of my ability. I might even be able to send you a short sound clip, if you are interested. I will ship the instrument as soon as the money clears my account (same day).

Used 2007 Breedlove Quartz OF # 9645 A Style Mandolin for Sale Made in Bend, OR. Solid Spruce Top. Solid Maple Back & Sides. Ebony Fingerboard & Bridge. 14" Scale Length. 1 3/16" Nut Width. Includes Hardshell Case. I am the 2nd owner, The first owner bought the mandolin in Troy, NY in July of 2007. She hardly played it. Breedlove Mandolins are well-known for their sound and beauty. 1995, Kim Breedlove built the first Breedlove mandolin prototype and debuted it at NAMM. The tiny company wrote 150 orders -- and had no way to actually produce that volume of instruments. Kim spent the next year figuring out how to ramp up production to fill the demand, and suddenly Breedlove went from a little custom shop that produced a handful of instruments a year, to a force to be reckoned with. This is an early Breedlove from before large volume manufacturing began. This Breedlove is in very good condition, with only two small dents, one on each edge of the front, as shown in the photographs. It has been well cared for and maintained. This model is no longer made, but if you find one, the price will often be $ 1,200.00 or more. It has a wonderful sound, perfect for Celtic or Bluegrass. $ 950.00 cash. Serious offers only.

1925 Raffaele Calace bowlback mandolin. Needs work, but IMHO not too bad and can be restored without too much of a problem. A rare opportunity to acquire a Calace instrument in a reasonable condition in Australia. Good points: * Good rosewood bowl with no splits. * No movements in the heel area * No loose braces (as far as I could assess it) * Playable action * IMHO Suitable for restoration without opening the top * Great instrument without too many problems Issues: * One large and 2 smaller top splits * Side trim loose at one side (repair attempt with brown mastic is observed) and there's a portion of it missing and painted brown on the tailpiece side. * Missing: two frets and the bridge * Tuners are not original at one side. Please note that I am not a luthier and did the above observations based on my limited experience, but to the best of my abilities to do so. The photos are the part of the listing, so make your own judgements and desicions. The instrument is strictly sold on "As Is, No Return/Refund basis".

For Sale: Cushman F-5 Mandolin - $2,250 USD

I just took this mandolin in trade today. It us a U.S. made instrument, made by Matt Cushman, of Great Falls, Montana. This mandolin has a very nice tone to it. It is plenty loud, chops well, and sounds great up and down the neck. It is also very easy to play. It's a real great value for an American quality made F-5 mandolin. Here are some specifications on this mandolin: Spruce Top Maple Back and Sides Fully bound body, top and back Fully bound radiused ebony Fretboard, with mother of pearl dots and large frets Grover (worm on bottom) tuners Adjustable Truss Rod Bone Nut, 1.150" wide (between 1 1/8" and 1 3/16") Bound ebony Headstock Overlay with deluxe M.O.P. Inlay Cumberland Acoustic Bridge Cumberland Acoustic Armrest Hard Shell Case included This mandolin is currently set-up with a pretty low action. Still, there are no fretting issues, and, as I mentioned earlier, plenty of volume. I imagine you could raise the action a bit, and really have a "Flame Thrower" on your hands here! I don't know much about this builder, but he seems to have a good reputation, and, from my perspective he builds a fine mandolin. New ones are priced at $2800, and that does not include some of the upgrades that are on this particular mandolin. The previous owner told me that the Cumberland Acoustic bridge made a huge difference in the performance of this mandolin, which is something I always like to hear! We ship instruments on a regular basis, so it will be professionally packed and insured. If you live nearby, it is also available for local pick-up. Contact me if you have any questions. Thanks for looking! Steve

For Sale: 1980 Flatiron 1SH - $400 USD

Letting my sweet little Flatiron 1SH go to help fund another instrument purchase. Early Flatiron pancake model (the "SH" indicates that the top is shaded) from 1980. There's a lot of finish crazing on the front, back, neck and headstock, and some dings here and there but the instrument is structurally sound with no cracks or holes of any kind. The top has sunken slightly toward the lower portion of the soundhole, but the braces themselves are completely intact. Neck is straight; it plays with ease and sounds sweet as can be! I do not have a case, but will double box the mandolin and wrap it with plenty of protective bubble wrap and packing peanuts. $400 Buyer pays shipping and insurance + PayPal fee. Cashier's check or money order also accepted.
